Facebook mengumumkan pembelian Instagram, sebuah aplikasi pengunggah foto di smartphone. Facebook harus membayar US$1 miliar atau sekitar Rp9,17 triliun dalam bentuk tunai dan saham untuk pengambilalihan ini.

Instagram baru diluncurkan pada Oktober 2010. Awalnya, aplikasi ini hanya untuk iPhone. Namun, pekan lalu, ditawarkan juga sebagai aplikasi pada Android.

Kepala eksekutif Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, berjanji akan terus mengembangkan Instagram sebagai merek yang berbeda dengan jejaring sosial besutannya.

Aplikasi ini akan dibiarkan tetap seperti semula, di mana para pengguna tetap dimungkinkan membuat posting ke jejaring sosial saingan Facebook.

“Kemampuan Instagram terhubung dengan layanan di luar Facebook sangat penting,” kata Zuckerberg pada halaman Facebook-nya sebagaimana dikutip BBC. “Kami berencana menjaga fitur asli untuk mengirim ke jaringan sosial lainnya.”

Aplikasi Instagram ini gratis dan memungkinkan pengguna untuk menerapkan 17 filter gambar, seperti mengubah komposisi warna sebelum gambar diunggah. Aplikasi ini sangat populer. Instagram mengklaim memiliki lebih dari 30 juta pengguna yang telah mengunggah lebih dari 5 juta gambar baru setiap hari. (umi)

Dekati Asia, Nokia Buka Pabrik di Vietnam

Nokia melihat penurunan pangsa pasar ponselnya yang terus merosot selama beberapa tahun. Terima kasih kepada Apple dan Android yang telah mengganggu kondisi finansial Nokia. Samsung pun berhasil menyalip dominasi ponsel Nokia.

Nokia berusaha membalikkan keadaan dengan berbagai cara. Kemitraan Nokia dengan Microsoft membuahkan ponsel Windows Phone 7 OS. Langkah ini melahirkan smartphone Nokia Lumia yang menjadi unggulan Nokia saat ini.

Pada Maret 2012, Nokia telah memberhentikan pekerja di pabrik Salo, Finlandia. Sebanyak 1.000 karyawan pabrik kehilangan pekerjaannya. Rencana restrukturisasi pun dimulai dengan pemecatan besar-besaran. Di bawah kepemimpinan Stephen Elop, 3.000 karyawan telah diberhentikan.

Sementara 3.000 orang di berbagai belahan dunia menjadi pengangguran, Nokia memiliki rencana merekrut 10.000 karyawan baru dengan gaji yang lebih rendah. Menurut sumber berita Vietnam, BaoMoi, Nokia akan mengeluarkan US$300 juta untuk membangun pabrik baru di negara tersebut. Pabrik itulah yang akan membuka lowongan untuk sekitar 10.000 orang.

EVP Pemasaran Nokia, Niklas Savander mengatakan, “Pergeseran perakitan perangkat ke Asia ditargetkan untuk mempercepat waktu produk kami sampai ke pasar. Dengan bekerja lebih dekat dengan pemasok, kami percaya bahwa kami akan dapat memperkenalkan inovasi ke pasar lebih cepat dan akhirnya menjadi lebih kompetitif.”

Nokia akan meresmikan pembangunan fasilitas ini pada 23 April. Menurut Thenextweb.com, pabrik ini diharapkan dapat beroperasi pada awal 2013. Perusahaan ini optimis produksi perangkat low-end yang dibuat di Vietnam akan mulai dapat dijual ke seluruh dunia tahun depan.

Sertifikat Investasi untuk pabrik Vietnam ini telah dikantongi sejak 15 November 2011. Nokia Vietnam Limited Liability Company telah dibentuk dengan dukungan pamerintah. Pabrik ini akan berdiri di Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP), provinsi di utara negara itu yang bernama Bac Nihn.

VSIP ini sudah menjadi lokasi pabrik dari rival terberat Nokia dalam kategori smartphone, Samsung. Pejabat pemerintah optimistis dengan investasi raksasa Nokia dapat membangun VSIP sebagai pusat produksi ponsel untuk daerah. Saat semua telah siap pada 2014, Nokia berharap pabrik di vietnam dapat memproduksi lebih dari 45 juta unit setiap tahun.

Langkah Nokia membuka pabrik untuk mendekati pasar Asia ini mengingatkan pada keputusan RIM membuka pabrik di Malaysia. Nokia bukan satu-satunya perusahaan teknologi raksasa yang berjibaku karena penurunan penjualan. Sony pada April mengumumkan rencana kembali ke tenaga kerja di Jepang. Xperia P Dan Xperia U Produk Baru Sony Setelah Lepas Dari Ericsson

Telah diketahui sebelumnya kalau Sony membentuk joint venture dengan Ericsson, dan melepas produknya dalam bendera Sony Ericsson. Tapi Sony kemudian melengkapi pembelian sahan 50 persen milik Ericsson pada 16 Febuari lalu. Dengan bendera baru bernama Sony Mobile Communications, dua produk Xperia P dan Xperia U ini menjadi penanda kembalinya Sony ke pasar smartphone.

Dua produk Xperia ini diungkap Sony di Mobile World Conference, Barcelona, Spanyol, kemarin. Mengutip laman Mashable, dua Xperia ini bagian dari seri NXT yang berbasis Android, setelah sebelumnya Sony memperkenalkan Xperia S. Xperia U merupakan smartphone dengan spesifikasi di bawah Xperia P. Xperia U akan memiliki layar berukuran 3,5 inch, prosesor dual core 1GHz, dan kamera 5 MP. Xperia P akan memiliki body dengan konstruksi yang disebut aluminum unibody. Ini merupakan ponsel layar sentuh dengan layar 4 inch, yang disebut “reality display”. Xperia P juga dilengkapi dengan teknologi White Magic, yang akan memberikan angle yang lebih melebar di cahaya yang lebih terang. Selain itu Xperia P juga akan dilengkapi fitur Near Field Communication (NFC), kamera 8 MP dan video 1080p. Sony juga memungkinkan Xperia P terhubung dengan HDTV melalui HDMI. Xperia P dan Xperia U siap dikapalkan di kuartal kedua tahun ini. Tapi, Sony tidak menyebut apakah dua Xperia ini akan menggunakan Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Mengutip laman Reuters, CEO baru Sony, Kazuo Hirai, mengatakan bahwa beberapa perubahan manajemen telah dilakukan. Namun, jalan masih panjang untuk menjelaskan kepada setiap orang apa yang dilakukan oleh perusahaan. Meski demikian, Sony diingatkan bahwa peralihan ini menyebabkan Sony harus melakukan rebranding, untuk lepas dari citra dan bayang-bayang Sony-Ericsson. Pejabat NASA menjelaskan Planet Dione ditemukan pada 1684 oleh astronom Giovanni Cassini. Bulan ini dinamai sesuai Dewa Yunani, Dione. Penyair kuno Yunani, Homer menggambarkan Dione sebagai ibu dari Dewi Aphrodite.

Pesawat ruang angkasa milik Badan Antariksa Amerika Serikat (NASA) yang mengitari Planet Saturnus telah mengidentifikasi lapisan atmosfer oksigen yang tipis pada cincin planet Dione, bulan Saturnus. Atmosfer Dione 5 triliun kali lebih padat dibandingkan dengan udara pada permukaan Bumi. Temuan oksigen pada Dione, tak lantas membuat pendapat pada ilmuwan berubah. Mereka tetap yakin Dione tak punya daya dukung kehidupan. Namun riset terbaru menunjukkan, Dione jauh lebih menarik dari yang sebelumnya kami pikirkan,” kata Amanda Hendrix, Deputi Proyek Sains Cassini pada Jet Propulsion Laboratory NASA, California.

Atmosfer Dione dideteksi oleh pesawat ruang angkasa NASA, Cassini, yang melihat lapisan oksigen sangat tipis, setara dengan dengan kondisi 300 mil atau 480 km di atas bumi. Dione merupakan salah satu bulan terkecil Saturnus dengan luas 698 mil atau 1123 km. Planet Dione mengorbit Saturnus setiap 2,7 hari pada jarak 234 ribu mil atau 377,4 ribu km. ukuran ini sama dengan bulan bumi. Dione bukan satu-satunya bongkahan batu yang mengandung atmosfer di tata surya. Lapisan tebal atmosfer diketahui menyelubungi Bumi, Venus, dan Mars. Juga bulan terbesar dari Planet Saturnus, Titan. Atmosfer tipis pada bulan Saturnus yang lain, Rhea, Dione, yang mirip juga terdeteksi oleh NASA pada 2010.

NASA meluncurkan misi Cassini pada 1997 yang mengorbit Saturnus sejak Cassini mendatangi cincin planet terbesar tersebut pada 2004. Misi tersebut merupakan upaya kerjasama NASA dan agen ruang angkasa Eropa dan Italia. Kerjasama tersebut telah diperluas beberapa kali, terkahir sampai 2017.

Mobil Nissan ditarik karena kebocoran bahan bakar

Nissan Motor Company, perusahaan otomotif Jepang, mengumumkan penarikan kembali untuk perbaikan lebih dari 79.000 kendaraan yang terjual di pasar Amerika Serikat untuk memastikan apakah ada kebocoran bahan bakar. Mobil-mobil Nissan yang ditarik kembali itu adalah Nissan Juke yang merupakan mobil sport utilities vehicle (SUV) jenis kecil, Nissan Infiniti QX yang merupakan jenis SUV besar, dan Infiniti M jenis sedan.

Mobil-mobil Nissan ini keluaran 5 Oktober 2009 hingga 27 Desember 2011. Penarikan kembali untuk perbaikan ini akan dimulai pada 19 Maret 2012

Badan Keselamatan Lalu Lintas Jalan Raya Nasional menegaskan dalam situs web mereka, kemungkinan sensor tekanan bahan bakar pada kendaraan-kendaraan tadi tidak cukup ketat. Hal ini bisa mengakibatkan bahan bakarnya bocor dan menimbulkan kebakaran.Namun pihak Nissan menegaskan, sejauh ini pada mobil-mobil Nissan yang dimaksud belum ada laporan telah terjadi kebakaran akibat kebocoran bahan bakar.

Penarikan kembali mobil-mobil Nissan itu baru diumumkan di Amerika Serikat sekalipun Nissan Juke dilaporkan juga dijual di Asia, termasuk Indonesia.
